Dr. Samyr Kenno

Post-doc Researcher

Samyr Kenno, PhD. Education: March 2019: PhD degree at “HOst Response in Opportunistic infectionS” (HOROS) doctoral program of excellence, Medical University of Innsbruck, Austria. Thesis title: Candida albicans factor H binding molecule Hgt1p as a dynamic complement evasion molecule. July 2014, Specialization (Postgraduate) School in Microbiology and Virology at University of Perugia, Italy. Thesis title: Neutrophil Extracellular Trap release in response to Candida albicans. October 2007, master’s degree in Medical Biotechnology at the University of Perugia, Italy.

Research activity: April 2019- November 2023- Postdoctoral researcher at the Institute for Systemic Inflammation Research (ISEF), University of Lübeck, Germany. Collaborative research center (CRC) 1526, Pathomechanisms of Antibody-mediated Autoimmunity (PANTAU). Research activity on targeted in-vivo studies in the crosstalk between the innate immunity and the autoantibodies production in Epidermolysis Bullosa Acquisita, a rare autoimmune skin blistering disease.

During the PhD, He focused the potency of C. albicans to inhibit the innate immune system, specifically the Complement System. During the postdoc, He implemented his knowledge regarding the immune system such as germinal center activation and antibody production through in vivo studies on autoimmunity. Now, combining the knowledge learned in mycology and the immunity, He works at Unimore in the DORIAN project which focuses the intracellular pathways of human vaginal epithelial cells in response to C.albicans.
