Dr. Andrea Ardizzoni graduated with honours in Biological Sciences in 1994 at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia with a thesis titled: “A S.E.M. study on the morphology of osteocytes”. In 1996 he obtained the certificate to practice as a trained Biologist. In 2006 he obtained a Ph.D. at Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine (University of London – U.K.) with a thesis titled “Allergome microarray for detection of total repertoire of allergen-specific IgE in human serum”. In 2007 he was granted the Diploma of Imperial College in Immunology, by the University of London.
During his career he dealt with several research topics: histophysiology of bone tissue, allergology, oral microbiology, clinical diagnostics, antimicrobial effects of molecules, compounds and materials. His skills include cellular microbiology techniques, protein microarrays, ELISA immunoassays, scanning electron microscopy, fluorescence microscopy and histological techniques. In the last few years, he has been dealing with fungi. He acquired knowledge and developed an expertise on fungal virulence factors and on the pathogenetic mechanisms of Candida albicans and other fungi that behave as opportunistic pathogens.
At present he is member of the Editorial Board for the Journal of Fungi and he is committed as a Review Editor for Frontiers in Microbiology and Frontiers in Drug Discovery.
In January 2020 he has obtained the national scientific qualification for the position of Associate Professor, and he is presently employed at the University of Modena as Assistant Professor (Researcher RTD-b).
